Happy Halloween! I love this time Very much doubt I will be writing anything before midnight now so thought I would do my update. Going to be quick as I think I have covered everything in the rest of my updates through the month, sporadic as they have been.

Again, been writing on and off all month and never exceeding a 1,000 words on any given day. I think an element of being overwhelmed at the amount of description and introduction needed for different aspects of the story threw me off at the start of the month then general apathy for the rest of it. I am really enjoying this story but maybe the fact that there’s been more planning and thinking done than writing says something. It has helped shape the story, the characters and the world that the story takes place in though and made me think about questions I hadn’t considered before.

I am becoming very grateful to myself for allowing me to experiment with jumping around the story if I feel I am able to write a later scene now. It has helped so much with getting stuff written and done that it makes writing that much easier. As for linking up those scenes, that could be another issue all together.

I am really looking forward to doing this story in NaNoWriMo. With the energy, community and challenge of it, I think it could be really beneficial with getting more of this draft written. It’s a chance just to write without really thinking too hard and getting some feedback at least from other writers involved in the challenge.

Getting into Destiny has both hindered and helped this month. I’ve ended up writing a few words of Destiny fan fiction which I will be going back to and think I am going to use the 100 themes challenge to help. That move is inspired by one of my best friends who is doing something similar with a project they are working on. I think I will keep going with this, maybe. Destiny just lends itself to some fan fiction being written.

Plan for next month is obvious really: write! Write as much as I can, don’t go crazy with NaNoWriMo and life and have fun! Anyone NaNo-ing? New story or rebelling like me? Leave your comment below, happy Halloween again and watch these brilliant videos from The Royal Institution:

Hot Patootie! Bless My NaNo!

Happy Halloween folks! To celebrate, have Meat Loaf singing Hot Patootie! Bless My Soul! from the classic musical, The Rocky Horror Picture Show:

As well as being Halloween, we are just hours away from the start of National Novel Writing Month. You might have guessed from the amount of NaNoWriMo Prep posts I have rebloggd and you might have also guessed that I am planning to enter this year.

I have a story surrounding two characters who work in a hotel. In basic, one character is a witch, a trainee concierge at the hotel, who ends up having to go to Berkshire, South of London, for a family reunion which ends up turning into a big family argument (what do you mean that always happens anyway?!) and ends up revealing a very nasty side of the witch. My other character is a werewolf, a receptionist at the hotel, who ends up going undercover to investigate a crime, under the direction of his pack alpha. I have probably not sold the story too well but I am looking forward to writing it. As you can probably tell, one story is more thought out than the other but the witch has talked to me more than the werewolf. Once the month gets under way, that might change.

Whether I get to the magical 50k or not, I don’t know; it will just be nice to be able to write something that is purely for fun! Being in competition with other WriMo’s could help push my word count up since I can be very competitive. I know I can and I do try to harness all that energy and use it all up during NaNo. I will end up revealing more about my story no doubt as I attempt to actually keep up with NaNo updates on here this time instead of having to bundle a bunch of days together like I have done in the past in one update. Who knows? I might even pluck up the courage to get to a write in or two in my local area! (What are you laughing at? It could happen!)

So bonus points if you got the joke I tried making with my title without looking at the video. I hope you are having fun and staying safe this Halloween, getting ready for NaNoWriMo in your own way if you are doing this session (don’t forget! Discounted Halloween sweets tomorrow!) and, because I am such a geek, have a levitating pumpkin from the Royal Institution!:

Happy Halloween!

It’s October 31st! And you know what that means! It is not only the last free day any WriMo’s are going to have until December 1st but also it is Halloween! I love Halloween. The food, the parties, the costumes, scaring kids witless if possible… Yes, I am a cruel woman when I want to be!

So to get you all set up for a scary night in, I thought I would post some links to some scary stories and some fun Halloween-inspired science.

Though I am not a big fan of scary stories if I am being honest, I do enjoy supernatural and paranormal stories and who could resist the lovely David Tennant reading some tales about vampires? Tennant News over on BlogSpot have posted links to audio files of David reading some vampire tales and you can find those here!

Also on BlogSpot, you will find a thrilling psychological horror to scare yourself with written by my good friend, Zoe Adams! You can find that story here. I warn you now, her work will surely give you some ghoulish nightmares!

Meanwhile, over on YouTube, the Royal Institution has posted a video demonstrating a couple of great demos using a pumpkin! Want to see a flaming pumpkin or a vomiting one?!  Have a look here:

James May meanwhile on the Head Squeeze Channel has shown how Uncle Fester from the Addams Family possibly lit up his light bulb in his mouth! This video also includes a rap about Michael Faraday:

He has also been involved in a little Trick and Treating which you can experience here:

And don’t forget to check out Google’s interactive Halloween doodle. I’ve had a play with it and it is pretty good.

With this lot, you should have a great night in I hope! Enjoy!
