Signs of a Creative Itch

Once you get The Creative Itch you will struggle to carry on with daily activities as your mind will not stop chanting “I want to do something creative!” or “I must write something!”

The urge to do something creative can be pretty powerful. It is very similar to a sugar craving as it is hard to ignore and in some cases you can experience withdrawal symptoms.

The Creative Itch is worse when you have zero chance of being able to write or do something creative. In these situations the symptoms will intensify and in some cases can lead to a total meltdown / hissy fit!

Here are some of the signs of The Creative Itch.

You may experience a few or all of these depending upon your creative urge:

  1. Restlessness.
  2. Difficulty concentrating.
  3. Irritability.
  4. Muttering.
  5. Glazed over eyes.
  6. Lack of desire to interact with other humans.
  7. Urge to draw doodles.

How to get yourself blacklisted

Don’t go making this man’s mistake. Read and learn what not to do or say.

A man named David Benjamin was unhappy an agent rejected him. He wrote a bitter blog post.

I’m providing this because I want you to know that people like this exist. Agents frequently have to protect themselves from this kind of abuse. The industry is small and agents pass this kind of thing on to each other. Note that this is not his first bitter post about an agent who rejected him.

I’ve provided the 3 screen-caps of his short blog post and 3 screen caps of the 6 comments, taken at 11am, July 27, 2016.

A link to his original post is provided at the bottom of this post.

I Probably Won’t Win CampNaNoWriMo (and that’s okay)

Definitely agree on this. I am not going to win but with 13.5k written, that’s a big chunk towards my yearly target overall. Just got to keep on trucking as they say.

Writing and Musing

If you’ve been around this blog for a little while you probably know that I have a bad track record with CampNaNoWriMo. I’ve participated in every Camp since 2011, and I’ve lost every single time. High goal or low goal, it doesn’t matter. My losing streak continues.

Every day makes it more and more likely that I won’t reach my goal this month either. I’m not giving up. I’m not going to stop writing. Anything could happen as long as there is still time left to write! With my track record it does seem less and less likely that I will reach 50,000 words this month.

I actually don’t care if I lose. At this point I’ve already written 5,000 more words this month than I did last month, and there’s still a whole week to go! I might not get an official win, but I’ve already accomplished a lot.

So, 150 words extra and those were written on Saturday during a write in. It’s just the start of a coffee talk between my FMC and MMC1. Nothing to tell really. As for why it’s just those words, it seems to be part of a pattern I have developed this month. I will write a big chunk one day then nothing or very little in the following days then a big chunk again. I have seen another person comment that they have a similar pattern (I think it was on the NaNoWriMo forums) so I am not overly worried. This story I will finish one day, I hope, but I think the extended break from my earlier Camp story (the dark magic family one) is actually making me itch to write some more on that.

For now though, I think I am just going to write whatever I can on this story and just get as much written as possible for this month. I hope you guys are having better luck with it.

So a little behind still but I have pulled back a lot so it’s not too bad.

My FMC got her sister off home, got some work done before running out to post it. It was whilst she was out posting that she discovered the slave she had protected the previous day just dumped in a bin in a bag. She got him to a volunteer/charity medical centre for slaves and discovers that MMC2 volunteers there. Once she had handed the slave to the medical staff, she got talking with MMC2 and discovers that he is actually the landlord of the pub. My FMC is also starting to like him even more as a friend than the acquaintance they had been in the past. That’s good as it plays into the love triangle thing.

After checking in on the slave, my FMC went home, slept and answering messages she had received. She also spent time musing on the differences between the country that this story takes place and the one that another set of stories I write. Both countries are apart of the same country so this is high fantasy combined with urban fantasy. Bit odd but it works right? Am I alone here?

As for what comes next, I am thinking I need to bring MMC1 back into the story so that will be today’s task I suspect. How are things going for you? Good? Bad? Hope you are still having fun.

Admittedly, very little written so just a quick update really.

I’ve dropped my word target to 20,000 words as 25k just isn’t going to happen I suspect. My FMC interrupted a slave auction to protect a slave ended up arrested for interfering and causing a scene. She’s awaiting her day in court. Meanwhile, she has met up with her pregnant sister (3 kids already, 4th on its way) who asked her why my FMC did it and my FMC admitted she wasn’t sure. She just knew she had to get involved with the sale of this particular slave.

Not quite sure what’s coming next and the writing will be clunky but I’ll get there eventually. Hope things are going well for you.
